Balance Me Super Toning Super Body Wash

Balance Me Super Toning Super Body Wash

As I am sure a lot of you will have seen last month's Glamour magazine was giving away a choice of 4 products from Balance Me. I have tried a few things from their skin care, so was curious to see how their bath and body products would compare.

If you haven't come across Balance Me before, they are British brand who produce beautiful natural products that are free from many nasties including parabens, sulphates and mineral oils. From the previous products I have tried, I really like the brand.

Balance Me Super Toning Body Wash aims to improve skin tone, soften, smooth and encourage good circulation. It contains juniper (good for cellulite, and eczema), bergamot (good for eczema and psoriasis), geranium (good for ski conditions and keeping skin supple), and lavender (good for skin conditions).

For me the overriding fragrance comes from the bergamot - think a lighter and fresher version of earl grey tea. I really like the fragrance of this as I am not really one for lavender scents, and found it really refreshing in the hot weather we are enjoying. The body wash produces a gentle foaming action and you really only need a small amount. My skin was certainly softer and didn't seem as dry after showering. I can't say that I noticed an immediate toning effect, but it is maybe too early to tell.

This is a lovely body wash, from a lovely brand. I will definitely look to buy more from the range. I think I will definitely be putting Balance Me on my wish list.

Revlon ColorStay Ultimate Suede in 005 Muse.

Revlon ColorStay Ultimate Suede in 005 Muse.

Revlon ColorStay Ultimate Suede in 005 Muse is a lipstick I have ben wearing quite a lot now that we have finally had some nice weather. I think that this bright pink is a really pretty shade for summer, and a very wearable shade for the daytime.

This lipstick really does stay put once it's on. I think this is is of the most long wearing lipsticks I have tried., giving a good 5-6 hours of wear time, despite whatever I have had to eat or drink. When it does wear off it fades evenly.  Revlon ColorStay Ultimate Suede is a matte lipstick which I find does not ry my lips at all. Hover the texture is a little weird and probably not to everyone's liking. It glides on smoothly enough, but then it remains a little tacky. I can cope with this, as I prefer the tackiness to lipstick that completely dries out my lips. I rate this lipstick very highly and can see it being a staple product for the summer.

July 2013 Empties.

                                                              July 2013 Empties.

I really can't believe we are more than half way through the year, where has it all gone? July has been quite a busy month for me. The end of the school term for the kids, a family holiday and a new job on the horizon. After 10 years of working permanent night shifts I will be re-joining the land of the living and starting work in the daytime.

I am really trying to use up products that I have had lurking about for ages as well as the numerous samples I seem to have amassed. In August I am setting myself a month long spending ban so that I can concentrate on enjoying the products I already have.In particular need of using up were the things I keep in my travel bag, as they always seem to slip my mind.

Boots Essential Nail Polish Remover isn't  a particularly glamorous start to this month's empties, but we have to start some where. This is a cheap and cheerful product. It's effective at removing my polish and doesn't smell too horrendous. Will repurchase in the future.

Natio Gentle Foaming Facial Cleanser features in an earlier empties post so I won't dwell too much on this. I like this a lot and once I have used up my samples I will repurchase the full size.

Lancôme Hypnose Mascara is my all time favourite mascara. I always have one of these in reserve. It gives length and volume and makes my puny eye lashes look fantastic. It is an amazing mascara and I love it dearly.

Lancôme Genifique is my favourite serum. It does wonders for my skin, it softens and brightens my skin. Have never found anything quite like it and have two bottles to use up before I can allow mself to buy the new advanced formula.

MOA The Green Balm is the tiny little pot. It can be used for multiple purposes. I have had a really annoying flare up of eczema between my fingers and on my wrists and this has cleared it up nicely. It has also worked wonders on the grazes and scuffed knees of my boys. This tiny little pot went on for ages and I have bought a replacement.

Natio Clay and Plant Face Mask Purifier is another sample that I have really enjoyed using. This is a lovely clay mask. It isn't too drying, and doesn't set like concrete so is actually quite comfortable to have on your face. My skin is definitely clearer and brighter after using this. I have a few other face masks to use first, but will buy this again.

Botanics Soothing Eye Make Up Remover is something that I have had stashed in the bottom of a drawer for ever. This is the older formula, and I really liked it. Good value for money, removed my eye makeup easily and didn't leave that nasty oil slick that some removers leave behind. Botanics have since changed the formula and rumour has it that the new and improved isn't as good. I don't think I will buy it because of that.

Umberto Giannini Intense Beauty Conditioner is a mini I have had in my travel bag for ever hence it's very battered appearance. This conditioner was ok, but it wasn't anything special. I also think the full size is over priced for the decidedly average results it gave. Will not repurchase.

Umberto Giannini Dazzling Shine Shampoo gave slightly better results, but still nothing particularly impressive. Another item I won't be buying again.

Clarins Beauty Flash Balm is another of my all time favourite beauty products. A dab under foundation gives the most amazing radiance and really is a fantastic primer. My favourite use for this is as a face mask, as it really brightens my skin. Already have another of these in reserve.

Clarins Multi-Active Day Cream featured in last months empties so again I won't dwell too much on this. I really do like this moisturiser and have a full size replacement ready.

Osmo Blinding Shine Shampoo seemed to go on for ever. I bought this after using an intense hair mask from the same range and being impressed. Sadly this didn't live up to expectations. My hair wasn't noticeably shinier for using this, so won't be repurchasing.

The Body Shop Almond Hand & Nail Cream is another favourite product. This really does do wonders for my hands. It is soothes, calms and moisturises. This is what I reach for when my hands are really chapped and sore, and it soon sorts them out.

The Body Shop Hemp Body Butter was part of a hand care set I got for my birthday. I like the hemp hand cream, but am not convinced on it as a body butter. Yes it is wonderfully moisturising, but I find the scent too much all over the body. Will not be repurchasing this.

Ted Baker Body Scrub is the last of this month's empties.  This is a thick scrub and I love the smell of the Ted Baker range. It is a good scrub, but I prefer the soap & glory ones, so I don't think I will buy this again.

Figs & Rouge Cherry Blossom Hand Cream.

Figs & Rouge Cherry Blossom Hand Cream.

It's fair to say that I have quite an obsession with hand cream. I get through tonnes of the stuff and usually have 2 or 3 different ones on the go. This is a recent addition to my enormous stash, but as I have now used most of  it I thought I would share my thoughts on it.

Figs & Rouge Cherry Blossom hand cream comes in an 80 ml tube. The tube itself features a  pretty floral design which has a retro feel in keeping with the brand, and is very pleasing on the eye. It's a nicely sized hand cream, containing enough to be value for money, but still in a tube which can easily be thrown into your bag. I like this kind of tube as you can squeeze every last drop out without having to resort to cutting the top off.

The hand cream itself contains coco butter, which makes for a highly moisturising formula. I must admit, I do really like coco butter for it's moisturising properties. This hand cream is wonderfully light, it leaves no greasy residue whatsoever, and is absorbed very quickly. I found the moisturising effect to be very long lasting. Some hand creams feel nice for half an hour or so, and then your hands are dry again. Not so with this little gem.I think this is one of the nicest hand creams I have tried, and would say it is as good as the body shop hand creams which I absolutely swear by.

It smells absolutely heavenly. The cherry blossom fragrance is light and sweet without being sickly, and reminds me of a fruity ice lolly. I bought mine for about £6.99 which I think is a reasonable price for a high quality hand cream. I certainly paid more for less effective hand creams. I will most certainly be buying this again, although I think I may buy the mocha orange one from the range first.

Latest in Beauty Ultimate Summer Nails

Latest in Beauty Ultimate Summer Nails.

When Latest in Beauty Ultimate Summer Nails was first released I wasn't quick enough off the mark and I missed out. Second time around I wasn't about to make the same mistake. As soon as that re-release email came I ordered,  even though we were just going on holiday for the week. On our return,  my lovely parcel was ready to be collected from the post office.Just for reference I ordered on the 19th (Friday) and it came on the 22nd (Monday). Pretty impressive service.

So, lets get down to business.  I have only just opened the box, so these are my initial thoughts.
A full size Bourjois Magic Nail Polish Remover. I am probably the last person on the planet left to try this,  but nevertheless am really excited about this product.

A set of Essie Sleek Stick nail wraps. This contains 18 stickers, a file and buffer and instruction sheet.  This isn't for me. I just won't get the wear time out of this,  as I can't wear it at work.  Being the bah humbug I am, it sounds like too much faffing around. This will be donated to a friend.

A 30ml sample of L'OCCITANE Dry Skin Hand Cream. I can't wait to try this. I have been really impressed with other L'occitane products and a nurse can never have too much hand cream.

Rituals Nail Varnish Corrector Pen. I am really looking forward to trying this.  I tend to be quite clumsy, so anything to help tidy up my mistakes is very much welcome.

The Vintage Cosmetic Company Nail File is a pretty floral nail file which feels good quality. Admittedly it isn't the most exciting item in the box, but I am sure I will make good use of this.

Nail inc nail polish in Notting Hill (hot neon pink) and Kensington Caviar top coat.  These both contain 4mls each. The neon pink is a lovely vibrant summer colour and I am looking forward to trying both of these out.

Last but no means least is the product I am most looking forward to, and if I am honest what I really bought the box for. A full size Butter London nail polish in Yummy Mummy. This is a beautiful nude colour and I can't wait to try this.

Overall I think this is one of the best boxes Latest in Beauty have released. I think there are some fantastic products in here, and the box generally is well thought out. There is everything you would need for a Summer manicure. The box is sturdy and the contents well packaged. Delivery was really fast too. I think this is an absolute steal and am super impressed.

The Big Clarins Splurge.

                                                              The Big Clarins Splurge.

A few weeks ago Clarins had a huge sale with up to 50% off their skin care gift sets online. Clarins is one of my all time favourite brands. It may not be the cheapest, but I always feel that it is good value for money. Everything I have tried from Clarins I have loved and it really does deliver good results. So I made the most of the sale and stocked up on some favourite products.

First choice was a gift set containing a full size 50ml Extra-Firming Day Cream, a 10ml sample of Extra-Firming Tightening Lift Botanical Serum and a 15ml sample of Extra-Firming Night Cream. I love both the day and night cream, they are beautifully light yet richly hydrating. These are moisturisers I regularly buy. The serum I have yet to try, but am looking forward to going so.

Second choice was a gift set containing a full size 30ml of Extra-Firming Tightening Botanical Serum, and 15ml samples of Extra-Firming Day and Night cream as well as the Neck cream. This I bought mainly as I was curious to try the Neck cream. Since it was half price and had other samples I already like, I thought it was the ideal time to try it. I can't wait to try it out.

As well as there being a sale, you could choose 4 bonus items for spends over £60 and with every online purchase you can pick another 3 samples. I chose 100ml Cleansing Milk, 15ml Beauty Flash Balm, a mini mascara and a 30ml bottle of eau des jardens. The mini samples are 3mls Pore Minimizing Serum, 3ml Vital Light Serum and 3ml Restorative Total Eye Concentrate. The Cleansing Milk is lovely. It's light and fresh. Beauty flash balm is one of my all time favourite beauty products. Under foundation it is a fabulous primer and gives such radiance. Simply love it. Have not yet tried the mascara, perfume or serums but overall am very pleased with what I have bought. Yes, £60.50 on skin care is quite a splurge, but I do feel I have got quite a lot for my money. A good mixture of old favourites and new things to try. This lot will see me up to Christmas.

Cerruti 1881 - A Favourite Summer Fragrance.

                                        Cerruti 1881 - A favourite Summer Fragrance.

I think this is my fourth bottle of Cerruti 1881. It's a fragrance I come back to time and time again for summer. It combines floral notes including Rose, Iris, Lily of the Valley, Jasmine and Freesia, as well as earthier Sandalwood, Amber, Musk, Vanilla and Cedar notes.

This gives a beautifully light and elegant fragrance that is just perfect for summer days. The floral notes give it a sweetness, whilst the earthier notes make it more grounded and stop it from becoming too girly. The under notes of sandalwood  and musk please my inner hippy, and ensures that the fragrance has good staying power, without being too overpowering for daytime or summer wear. I can't tell you how much I love this perfume, it is simply devine, it is also one that I have had numerous compliments about too.

What is your favourite fragrance for summer?

Dr Bragi Age Management Moisturiser.

                                                  Dr Bragi Age Management Moisturiser.

A couple of months ago I received a 5ml sample of Dr Bragi Age Management Moisturiser. Now that I have finished my sample I thought I would share my thoughts with you.

Dr Bragi’s patented formula combines his unique, ‘super active’ marine enzymes with the added hydrating and plumping abilities of hyaluronic acid. These help to keep the skin in prime condition without the need for numerous products; it is serum, moisturiser and eye cream in all in one. This is a super deluxe product and the full size 50ml retails online from between £100 - £120. Mega expensive stuff, however if one product does the job of three to four, it could be argued to be more cost effective than it initially seems.

This is actually a gel rather than a cream, which wasn't what I was really expecting. Also because of it's highly moisturising properties you only need the tiniest smidge of product. Dr Bragi state that if your skin feels sticky, you have used too much. Herein lies my problem, I was literally using the tiniest dot of product over my face, neck and chest and it still felt sticky. Maybe I was trying it at the wrong time of year i.e at the height of Summer. I suspect that I would have had more benefit using it over Winter when my skin is noticeably drier.

This 5ml sample lasted me about 10 days using day and night instead of the combination of my usual serum, moisturiser and eye cream. I know this isn't really long enough to judge it's anti-ageing effects, but given the price tag I was hoping to notice something, and I just didn't. I don't feel that it did anything more than my existing regime already does.

So all things taken into account I won't be purchasing the full size, I just can't get past that sticky feeling. Neither can I justify that price tag, even if it were to replace three or four products.

Have you tried this product. Did you have better luck than me?

Nyx 10 Colour Eye shadow Palette in Versus

Nyx 10 Colour Eye shadow Palette in Versus.

Nyx currently have a sale on their website, and being a fan a couldn't resist a cheeky purchase. I already have a big palette of their eyeshadows, but wanted something a little smaller to go away on holiday with. I bought the 10 Colour Eye shadow palette in Versus for a bargain price of £6.50 instead of the rrp of £10.

Versus is a mixture of neutral brown and purple shades which are just perfect colours for my hazel eyes. There are a combination of matte, shimmer and glitter shades. The first two on the top (L to R) and the second on the bottom row (L to R) are matte shades. Third and fourth on the top and first, third and fifth on the bottom are shimmer shades. The final shade on the top and the fourth on the bottom are the glitter shades. There are no shade names for any of the colours in this palette.

The palette itself comes in a simple but sturdy case, which will be perfect to go in my travel bag. The colours are just beautiful. They are highly pigmented, and incredibly soft. They blend so easily and most importantly they have really good wear time. The glitter shades only contain very fine particles of glitter so the effect is very subtle. I think these are absolutely fantastic products, especially for the price and would happily recommend them to anyone.

Swatches of the top row, left to right in same order as the palette.

Swatches of the bottom row, left to right in same order as palette.

I am afraid these swatches don't do the palette justice. It's a beautiful sunny day here, and I just couldn't get the shades to show up as well on camera as it does on my arm.

Dove Hair Therapy Damage Solutions Intensive Repair Shampoo and Conditioner

Dove Hair Therapy Damage Solutions Intensive Repair Shampoo and Conditioner.

Having almost come to the end of the Dove Hair Therapy Damage Solutions Intensive Repair Shampoo and Conditioner I thought it was time to share my thoughts on them. I bought these a while ago from Boots when they were on half price offer. The full retail price is usually £2.69.

The intensive repair shampoo and conditioner contain keratin repair actives which claims to protect against breakage for 5 x less split ends. I have really long fine hair, with dry ends but a tendency to have greasier roots. Split ends are the bain of life. What I really want is something to nourish the tips without making my roots an oil slick.

I am not daft enough to think there is a miracle cure out there, but anything that will protect against breakage is a good thing. I have used both the shampoo and conditioner on a daily basis and am genuinely impressed with the results. The shampoo gives a rich lather and my hair always feels really clean afterwards. The conditioner only goes on the pony tail section. It has made my hair have considerably less tangles. My hair is now much softer, and generally much healthier. My ends are definitely in better shape, they feel nowhere near as dry as they did. Bearing in mind this is a drugstore product at such a low price, it really does deliver the goods. Will most definitely repurchase, and am eyeing up the spray on leave in conditioners that are in the Dove range.

Clinique Chubby Stick Intense in Mightiest Maraschino.

Clinique Chubby Stick Intense in Mightiest Maraschino.

I know there are lots of crayon type lipsticks on the market now, and most are considerably cheaper than the Clinique ones. Even so, I still have a soft spot for the chubby sticks. They certainly have the widest range of colours. Mightiest Maraschino is my current favourite.

It's a lovely bright and cheerful cherry red. Just perfect against my pale skin. I have had quite a few compliments when wearing this. It applies well, and gives a good wear time. I love the formula. It's deeply moisturising, without feeling heavy, even in the current weather.

Glossybox July 2013.

                                                            Glossybox July 2013

What goodies I have received today. The last of my beauty boxes has literally just landed on my door step. This is my glossy box. It came in a special one off box, which has a seaside theme. The box is really cute. I haven't really had chance to try these products out, so this is just a quick first impressions post.

Firstly a full size Spray misty for me by anatomicals. This is a cooling facial spray containing lavender, peppermint and witch hazel. It smells predominantly of lavender which I like. I am going to have to hide this as unfortunately the children caught me testing it and have taken rather a shine to it. They were very impressed with it's cooling effect.

A 10ml sample of pukka radiance serum. Pukka definitely seems to be doing the beauty box rounds at the moment as it is in July's Beauteco box and there were pukka products in a recent Birchbox too. I don't mind that. I like serums. The question is can it compete with my beloved genifique - we shall see.

A 7ml sample of coola mineral sunscreen tinted moisturiser. Coola is another brand that seems to be doing the beauty box brand. I haven't tried this particular product. It is an organic suncare product that gives a broad spectrum spf 20 in a tinted moisturiser. Now usually these kind of products are way to dark for my pasty face, but this is actually a light shade. Being a nurse, I think that sunscreen is really important. Again I look forward to trying this.

A 25ml size bottle of bamboo style boho waves by alterna. This claims to add texture, volume and healthy shine to hair. Am a little puzzled as to how one product can deliver texture and shine at the same time, but again we shall see. I have had a conditioner from alterna previously and loved it, so am looking forward to trying this.

And last but by no means least, this gorgeous nail varnish by ciate in shade mistress. This is the little gem I am most excited about. Lovely bright summery red shade. I couldn't have chosen a better shade myself.
I am really pleased with this box. There are two full size products and decent sized samples of the rest. I think that glossybox have upped their game somewhat with having been out performed by Birchbox recently. New addition to the beauty box scene beauteco box are also giving them a run for their money. This can only be a good thing, as I was getting a bit fed up of titchy samples and things that didn't match my profile. I was thinking of cancelling my subscription to glossybox, but after this month I think I will wait a little longer before I decide.

Birchbox July 2013.

                                                         Birchbox July 2013.

This morning I received an unexpected but very welcome delivery in the form of my Birchbox. Think I must have missed the despatch email. As it has only just arrived this is just a peak to show what came in the box and my initial thoughts.

Firstly a Reverance de Bastien  VolupTHE  hand cream in a 25ml sample. This is perfect for me. I cn never have too much hand cream. Contains tea tree extract and cotton oil. Smells pleasant, and doesn't feel too heavy on the skin.

Dead Sea Spa Magik body lotion is another 25ml sample. I really like the dead sea products that I have tried so far, and am really looking forward to trying this.

This little bottle is actually Vitabella anti-ageing face mask. Have not heard of this brand before, but who doesn't love a face mask. I assume that there is enough for one application in the bottle. Apparently you had the contents of the bottle to the white circle which then expands into a mask. Knowing me I will probably tear the mask, but I am very intrigued never the less.

Now if I am being completely honest this is the product I am most excited about trying. This is my piece de resistance if you will. It is a sample of instain blush by theBalm. The shade I received is swiss dot. Very pleased with this. Am so hoping that Birchbox will be stocking some theBalm products in their shop.

The last of the beauty samples is a 15ml sample of blanc cachemire crème de jour protectrice, which is basically a posh sounding day cream. It is made of 100 % natural ingredients and promises to be a light weight moisturiser. Again I have not come across this brand before.

Then finally as an added bonus there is a sample of chia seeds. Not really fussed about this one to be honest. Not really a seeds kinda gal.

Overall I am really pleased with this box. It might be a bit skin care heavy for some, but personally that suits me down to the ground. I feel that skincare is the foundation of a good beauty regime and am always happy to try products that brands that are new to me. I may not always buy the full sized products as some of them are on the pricey side, but its a nice treat. All the samples are of a decent enough to get a good feel for a brand too. Overall thumbs up from me.

Boots Summer Points Event.

                                                        Boots Summer Points Event.

I have such a love affair with Boots and their Advantage Card reward scheme. I hoard all my points until the January sales when I have an enormous splurge. Today (11th July 2013) Boots are having one of their fabulous points promotions. Simply pop into store and for every £30 spent, you receive £7.50 back in advantage card points. An offer not to be missed. These are the little treats I bought.

In addition to the overall Summer points event, Lancôme is on promotion at the moment. Buy two products (one being a mascara) and you get £7.50 back in points. But wait it gets better still, the two eye shadows were massively reduced to £4.25 each. So in total I spent £30.50 and got a whopping £15.00 back in points.

I absolutely adore Lancôme products. The hypnose mascara is my staple mascara. It volumises and gives length, but still with a natural appearance. The waterproof formula doesn't budge until I am ready to take it off. I can't tell you how much I love this mascara. This is my back up for when my current one runs out.

I have other ombre absolue eye shadows in my collection and so know from past experience that they are good quality, long lasting and easy to blend. This time I have chosen A60 (Pearly Amethyst) a pretty violet shade and A15 (La Rose De Damas) a neutral everyday pink. At £4.25 a pop it would have been rude not too.

Sleek Blusher in Rose Gold.

                                                               Sleek Blusher in Rose Gold.

I am developing quite a love affair with sleek products. For a drugstore brand they are pretty impressive and could give some of their more expensive counter parts a run for their money. For the last 6 weeks or so I have been wearing sleek's blush in rose gold. I have to say it's love. The blush itself comes in a sturdy matte box, with embossed sleek logo and contains a handy little mirror. For £4.49 you get a very generous 8g of product.

The blush itself is highly pigmented, blends very easily and has really good wear time. I have been wearing it daily and have only just scratched the surface of this beautiful blusher.

On my super pale skin it gives a gives a lovely pink/golden hue. I use this in place of a bronzer as I find it gives a subtle sun kissed glow, instead of the usual I've been tangoed look most bronzers seem to give me. It just gives such a healthy and radiant look to my skin, and I just simply love it.

Amarya Box July 2013.

                                                          Amarya Box July 2013.

It soon come around to beauty box day. Today was the arrival of my Amarya box. As it has only just arrived I haven't had time to try any of them. I thought I would just share my initial thought on the contents of my box. This month is billed as being ''your box of summer treats'' and contains Neom inspiration hand cream, zoya colour cuties, john masters organic linden blossom cleanser sachet, and Dr Hauschka toned day cream.

The Zoya nail polish is mini 7.5 ml size and contains no formadehyde, formaldehyse resin, toluene, dibutyl, phthalate or camphor. My colour is what I would describe as a bubble gum pink, which I am rather partial to. I have another zoya nail polish in a lighter pink and like the range. Will be interesting to see if this needs as long to dry as the other polish I have.

Neom inspiration hand cream is a generous 50ml size. I already have a sample of this and really like it. This is a thick luxurious cream which smells more of violets than the chamomile (this is good I hate the smell of chamomile). It is deeply moisturising and a real treat.

Dr Hauschka toned day cream comes in a 5ml tube. Again I have other items from Dr Hauschka and it is a lovely high quality item. I have not tried this specific day cream, but am very much looking forward to doing so. I like that it comes in a tube, no mess and no waste.

Finally, John masters organic linden blossom face crème cleanser comes in a 5ml sachet. I think this will need decanting into a little pot as it seems that there is enough for a couple of uses. I like their body lotions so am happy to give this a go.

Overall thoughts. I am genuinely pleased with this box. I am always happy to receive skin care and there are some real gems in here. The nail polish is a lovely pretty colour too. I look forward to trying all of these items. I have to say Amarya is becoming my favourite beauty box for both quality of items sent and size of products included.
