Empties November 2013.

                                                                Empties November 2013.

I can't believe how quickly my monthly empties post comes around. Even more scary is the thought that this is the penultimate post of the year. So without further ado, here are the things I have used up this month.

Clarifying Beauty Balm (15ml) Antioxidant Firming Toner (15ml) and Blissful Youth Cream (15ml) by BareSkin Beauty. I have posted about these beautiful products individually and I have really enjoyed using this range. Will most definitely be purchasing them again.

Amie Spring Clean Cooling Clay Mask (75mls). I really feel I have had my money's worth from this mask. I have had it on the go since Summer and have been using it weekly since. I think this is a lovely face mask and still can't believe it is less than £5. Would buy again.

Lavera Hand Cream (20mls). I loved this sample, which contains shea butter. Very light and easily absorbed, whilst remaining very moisturising. I think it rivals the L'Occitane shea hand creams and is a fraction of the price too. I already have a full size to replace it with.

The Bodyshop Honey Mania Bubble Bath Melt (300mls). I loved the smell of this, and it gives a lot of bubbles. However I found using it from the tub very messy and this would be better if it were in a bottle. Lovely product, but the way it is packaged puts me off buying it again.

The Bodyshop Cocoa Butter Body Scrub (200mls). I like this a lot. This is a thick and creamy body scrub so it is really gentle on the skin. Would repurchase.

Mitchell and Peach Shower Wash (50ml) and Body Cream (50ml) were both nice products to use. They smell so good, and were nice and moisturising. I enjoyed using them but probably won't repurchase.

Weleda Oat Replenishing Shampoo (18mls). Unfortunately this didn't do much for my hair so I won't be buying this again.

Nuxe Fondant Shower Gel (50ml). This is super gentle on the skin and was a real pleasure to use. Has a lovely clean fragrance. This is on the wish list.

Dr Haushka Rose Body Oil (10ml). This smells heavenly and leaves my skin so soft. Really enjoyed using this body oil sample. Dr Haushka is a brand I really want to try more from.

Lucy Annabelle Argan & Bergamot Organic Treatment Oil (10mls). I reviewed this earlier in the month and really loved it. I want to try the Frankincense version next.

Organix Ever Straight Brazilian Keratin Therapy Conditioner (385mls). I seem to have had this on the go for months. This is really intended for thicker hair types, and for my fine hair it would be a bit heavy for all over use. I only use a small amount on the ends of my hair and it works wonders on my dead ends. It leaves my hair much more manageable and I love the rich buttery smell. I want to try the Macademia range from Organix next.

Have you tried any of these products? What have you finished up yourself?

Latest in Beauty Mini Haul.

                                                             Latest in Beauty Mini Haul.

As well as having some fantastic beauty boxes Latest in Beauty have a great range of sample sized products to choose from. The luxury samples are changed pretty regularly, so it is worth keeping an eye on what is currently online.

These little gems are the things that have caught my eye most recently and they were safely delivered this morning alongside a cute little stocking for purchases over £10.

The first luxury sample I bought was a 3ml sample of Aromatherapy Associates Revive Morning Bath & Shower Oil. This contains a blend of pink grapefruit, rosemary and juniper berry. It smells amazing and for just £1.50 was an absolute bargain.

A full size Essential Care Mineral Mascara in brown. I have been wanting to try this for quite a while. This was the first mascara to be certified by the Soil Association. It normally sells for £17.50 but it is just £9 on the Latest in Beauty website.

My final item is another bath oil. I am really pleased to pick up another BalmBalm Bath & Shower Oil (5ml bottle) as I loved the sample I received in my Love Me Beauty box so much. This is the Relax oil and is a blend of rose geranium, mandarin, lavender and ylang ylang. Another beautiful smelling bath oil and another bargain at £2.

There is also a fushi lip balm and a caudalie serum sample I am really tempted to try. You can find all the samples in the luxury samples here

Think Dirty Mobile App.

                                             Think Dirty Mobile App.

One of the things I find most frustrating about beauty products is reading and understanding the list of ingredients. It feels like a minefield sometimes, whereby clever marketing is used to hide a multitude of sins. What is advertised as being "natural" "organic" or "healthy" often isn't anywhere near as clean as manufacturers would have us believe.

(These images are not my own and have been taken from the App store)

                                                         iPhone Screenshot 1
                                                         iPhone Screenshot 2

The clever people at Think Dirty have developed an app for the iphone which is available from the App Store in iTunes store for free. The Think Dirty app contains a data base of 12,000 products and allows you to scan barcodes of personal care items in the store and analyse the ingredients. It then rates the product using information sourced from science, environmental and government organizations. Once it has determined whether a product is dirty or clean, it will recommend alternatives. If you can't find a product in the database, you can add it by entering the product name and taking a picture of the back label.

Unfortunately I no longer have an iphone as I changed it to a Samsung Galaxy, so I can't try this product for you. Despite not being able to try this for myself I thought a few of you might be interested in it, and was worth sharing it on that merit alone. If you do download it please let me know what you think to it.

You can find the app here or find out more information here

Aromatherapy Associates Miniature Bath & Shower Oil Collection.

Aromatherapy Associates Miniature Bath & Shower Oil Collection.

As you may have already suspected I spend an absolute fortune on my beauty box subscriptions. I am happy to do this as I love trying new products. Back in September I received a sample of Aromatherapy Associates Revive Body Gel in my Birchbox. This also marked the arrival of some Aromatherapy Associates products in the Birchbox shop.

When ever you complete surveys for Birchbox about the products you have been sent, you collect points. Once you have 100 points, that is converted to £10 to spend in the shop. I have been dutifully saving my points and I have used them to buy this beautiful set of Miniature Bath & Shower Oils.

My Aromatherapy Associates set safely arrived this morning. I am always really pleased with how quickly Birchbox deliver my orders and I can't wait to try them. There is nothing like a bit of a guilt free splurge to lift the spirits.

The Miniature Bath & Shower Oil collection contains 9 mini oils which Aromatherapy Associates say are designed to Relax, De-Stress Revive or Support. I love the packaging. It is simple yet elegant, it almost makes them look too pretty to use.

There is a mini version of Relax Deep, Relax Light, De-Stress Mind, De-Stress muscle, Revive Morning, Revive Evening, Support Breathe, Support Lavender & Peppermint and Support Equilibrium. I can't tell you how good these oils smell, even just opening the box smells fantastic. I am particularly looking forward to trying the Relax Deep and the De-Stress oils. Until I have used them all I will be storing them in a clothes drawer to make the most of those lovely fragrances.

You can find Aromatherapy Associates here

Have you tried any of the Aromatherapy Associates oils. Which would you recommend?

BareSkin Beauty Blissful Youth Cream.

                                                   BareSkin Beauty Blissful Youth Cream.

As you may recall I was very generously sent a try me set by Juliette from BareSkin Beauty. I have been using the Blissful Youth Cream for about a month and now I have finished my sample I thought it was time to share my thoughts with you.

Blissful Youth Cream is contains shea butter, cocoa butter, evening primrose oil, rose oil, frankincense oil, neroli oil, acai oil and rose hip seed oil. It is bursting with natural products which are highly moisturising, promote skin elasticity and regeneration, as well as plumping and brightening the skin.

The texture of this cream is like a whipped mousse. It simply melts in the skin and is very easily absorbed. This has been a real pleasure to use, and has given my skin a lovely glow. It is highly moisturising and has been a god send now the weather is cooling and my Winter skin is drying out. For me this has worked really well as a day cream, because the texture is so light and easily absorbed. I have found it very soothing and calming to apply, especially on those days when the wind is cold and my skin has felt chapped.  Like all the BareSkin Beauty products I have tried it smells lovely.

I am genuinely very impressed with the quality of this lovely moisturiser, and also with the wealth of information Juliette provides about her products on the website. I like to know what I am putting on my skin. I am always interested in why ingredients are used, and what properties they have. Juliette is very open about all of these things and is clearly very knowledgeable in her field. I feel that these products are very much a labour of love, and it comes across loud and clear both on the website and in the products themselves.

Love Me Beauty Box November 2013

Love Me Beauty Box November 2013

I received my Love Me Beauty box today, and I can't tell you how pleased I am with the contents. Love Me Beauty let you choose from 3 menus and the the one I chose was menu 2. Obviously you do know what products are coming to you, but I still really enjoy trying new products.

The first product is a 50ml sample of luxury brand Mitchell and Peach's shower wash. This can be used as a shower gel or as a bath foam. I still have the body lotion we were sent in the first box, so I am going to dig it out and use them together. I am looking forward to using this.

A 40ml sample size of Absolution Le Soin Purifiant. I say sample very loosely, the full size product is 50mls, so 40mls is a very generous sample size. I have heard great things about Absolution and I have been eyeing up this mask for quite some time. I am very excited to receive this today and can't wait to try it.

A 2-in 1-Eyeliner and Shadow Pencil by Jelly Pong Pong. This a full size product and is in a lovely bronze colour. I really like this and I look forward to trying it properly.

A full size Models Own nail polish in Prussian Blue. Another brand I have never tried, despite seeing it around a lot. Love the colour of this.

A full size lip gloss by Art Deco in Wood Rose. We had an eyeshadow primer by Art Deco a few months ago and I love it. I still use it most days, so I am really pleased to try another product from their range. This lip gloss claims to even out wrinkles and fine lines and improve the elasticity of the skin. The colour looks really pretty too.

The final item is a Lord & Berry Lipstick in Brick Lip. This has been sent to all of us  who received the Lord & Berry Mascara last month by way of compensation. I was so disappointed with last month's mascara as I loved the lipsticks we had previously received from Lord & Berry. I am really pleased to receive another lipstick by them as they are such lovely products.

I also think that this is fantastic customer service by the Love Me Beauty team. They clearly do take on board customer feedback and act any problems we may encounter. Impressive stuff Love Me Beauty, I take my hat off to you.

As you may have gathered I love this month's box. I think it has a great selection of beauty and skin care products and contains very generous product sizes.

You can subscribe to Love Me Beauty for £10 (+ p&p) a month.

NOTD Nailberry in Rouge

                                                          NOTD Nailberry in Rouge.

Today's post is just a quick nails of the day one. A few weeks ago I received a full size bottle Of Nailberry nail polish in Rouge, and today is the day to try it out.

Nailberry is a brand that is new to me, and I was pleased to see it has a "free from " formula. Nailberry formula's are free from Formaldehyde, Toluene, DBP and Camphor. It is also a brand who's products are cruelty free. It would also seem that they are a higher end brand, as these are not cheap nail polishes, they sell for £13.50 each.

As you can see the colour is a really bright and vibrant red, just the kind of colour I love. The formula is thinner than other "free from" formulas I have tried, but I quite like it that way. I tend to be a bit heavy handed in my application, so this gives nice thin coats. I am really impressed with the drying time of this nail polish, it dried so quickly.

I can't comment on how long it stays chip free for, as I only painted my nails this morning. However I never stay chip free for more than a day. To get to second day with any polish would be quite the accomplishment for me.

Nailberry polishes are available here

Lucy Annabelle Treatment Oil With Argan and Bergamot

Lucy Annabelle Treatment Oil With Argan and Bergamot

Lucy Annabelle is a company who produce luxury candles, bath and body products. I was lucky enough to receive a sample of their Treatment Oil With Argan and Bergamot in a beauty box over Summer. I have kept this aside for colder months when I would most feel the benefits of it.

Lucy Annabelle use only natural resources such as coco butter, aloe vera and essential oils to make their products. All their ingredients are carefully sourced and their organic products are made in Ireland. The brand is certified by the Soil Association, so you can be reassured that these are the real deal.

The Treatment Oil With Argan and Bergamot  contains Lemon Essential Oil, Bergamot Essential Oil, Lavender Essential Oil, Cypress Essential Oil, Soyabean Oil, Sesame Oil, Argan Oil, Avocado Oil, Apricot Oil, Rapeseed Oil, Rosemary Extract. As you can see there is nothing chemical or artificial to be found here.

The treatment oil is wonderfully nourishing on the skin. It leaves my skin so soft and smooth. You would be forgiven for expecting this oil to be heavy, given the moisturising properties of it's ingredients, but it isn't in the slightest. I have been really impressed with how quickly it is absorbed. There is nothing worse than waiting to get dressed on a cold morning. I have found that this absorbs into my skin much quicker than some of my body butters, and you really do only need to use a very small amount of oil at a time.

As for the fragrance, it smells amazing, I just love it. This has a really rich citrus scent. It is such a bright and happy oil. Lucy Annabelle suggest using it in the morning, but I have enjoying this in an evening too. It is a lovely pick me up.

As this is a luxury product, the price reflects that. The full size sells for £38 (125mls). There is a treatment oil with frankincense that I really want to try. If you want to try a smaller size, there is also a Winter Gift set which contains a sample of the treatment oil with argan and bergamot and one Cloud 9 Bath Milk which sells for £15. You can find Lucy Annabelle products here

SoukSouk Beauty Box November 2013

                                                  SoukSouk Beauty Box November 2013.

I am really pleased to be sharing my SoukSouk box with you today as I didn't think it would be coming until next week. A very welcome surprise indeed. This is the third box I have received from SoukSouk, and this is another box I am really pleased with.

Every box contains the SoukSouk Little Green Magazine which contains some useful tips and articles about organic lifestyle. I really enjoy reading this. I find it very well thought out, very informative, as well as featuring some great products.

The first item is a fourteen day sample of Beautify Me Vitamin Complex which is a supplement containing Marine Collagen, MSM and Silica as well as vitamin C, selenium and zinc. I have had a sample of this before and am quite happy to use it again.

This is a sample of Soak Yourself 100% Natural Soap. Fragranced with Patchouli and Vetiver this smells absolutely amazing. This can also be used as a solid shampoo bar. Soak Yourself soaps are handmade and free from SLS, parabens, mineral oils and artificial nasties. This is a new brand to me and I am really looking forward to trying this.

The little box contains a selection of goodies from Freya Luna. There is a Skin Support cleanser, toner and moisturiser sample as well as a sample of vanilla lip, face and body butter. I have tried a couple of things by Freya Luna and have been very impressed with them. I think that their products are very affordable and are really effective. I am very much looking forward to trying this little gift set.

I am very much a skin care person, this box suits me perfectly. It has a nice selection of brands I am familiar with and new products. When I have had chance to try them properly I will let you knowhow I am getting on with them. I am very happy with this box.

Birchbox November 2013.

                                                           Birchbox November 2013.

Today my Birchbox came, so as always I am doing a first impressions post. Last month's was quite possibly my favourite box up to date, so this month had very high standards to live up to. Although I think there are some real gems in here, it isn't as good as last months.

Firstly a perfume sample (English Laundry by Chrisopher Wicks 2mls). I quite like the smell of this, even if I am not fussed on the packaging. It has a very sweet smell and is quite a strong fragrance. I will use the sample up (if my daughter doesn't pinch it) but I don't think I would buy this.

Laura Mercier Souffle Body Crème in Ambre Vanille (25g sample). I am looking forward to trying this luxury sample. I had a quick try on the back of my hand and this smells lovely, it feels very hydrating too. Again this is something else I couldn't justify spending the full price on, but it is lovely to be able to try things I wouldn't normally buy.

An 18ml sample of Weleda Oat Replenishing Shampoo. I have already had a sample of this in my LoveLula box this month, but really don't mind another. Have liked all the Weleda things I have tried so far. This is a nice size to save for a weekend away.

3 samples of Pukka tea, and thankfully not a chamomile one in sight. I drink far too much tea and coffee, so it will do me good to try something different.

A 6ml sample of Spa Find Sculpted Silhouette Intensive Bust Firming Extract Serum. It is a sad days in a girls life when  your beauty box decides you are old enough to warrant a serum to improve the tone and firmness of you décolleté and neck. Joking aside, I am looking forward to using this, as these are the areas I am guilty of neglecting, and I am hopeful that it will improve the appearance of them.

This is a brand I have not come across before and Spa Find say they blend natural de-ionised water with pure Dead Sea minerals and organic plant extracts. Their products are paraben, genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and animal ingredient free.

A Chella Highlighter pencil. I won't use this, I am just not someone who bothers with highlighters. This will be something I will give away to a more appreciative friend.

Finally a little Birchbox sharpener, for thin and thick crayons. Not the most exciting of products, but usefull still.

Generally I am happy with my box, with there only being one product which just isn't my thing. I think it has a good selection of products, with a nice balance of luxury items and new brands to discover,

Did you get a Birchbox? What did you think to yours?

Bareskin Beauty Antioxidant Firming Toner.

                                               Bareskin Beauty Antioxidant Firming Toner.

A few weeks ago Juliette from Bareskin Beauty was kind enough to send me a Try Me and Love Me Skin Food Kit. You can read about the Beauty Balm and see a little more about Bareskin Beauty here

In today's post I wanted to show you the Antioxidant Firming Toner. I really like all the products in the try me kit, but this is my favourite. It is quite simply one of the nicest beauty products I have used in a long time. A little spritz of this on a cotton pad removes any last traces of the Beauty Balm and balances the skin.

Juliette has used Green Tea, Honey Witch Hazel, Nettle Tea Tree and Lemon Myrtle in the Antioxidant Firming Toner. I think this is a very clever combination of ingredients. It tones, de-toxifies, and regulates excess sebum, as well as having antibacterial and antiviral properties. With all these properties you might expect it to feel slightly drying, but I can assure you it is not. The Antioxidant Firming Toner refreshes the skin beautifully, it is incredibly soothing. It's subtle fragrance has a hint of spice, and feels very comforting. If your skin is congested this would really help to calm and soothe your skin. For me, whose skin tends to air on the dryer side I find it a very balanced toner to use.

I can't tell you how much I have enjoyed using this product. It is absolutely fantastic as a toner, but I have also enjoyed using this as a facial spray. It makes the perfect pick me up for the skin part way through the day. You can find all of Juliette's products here

My Cult Beauty Wish List

                                                      My Cult Beauty Wish List.

The Cult Beauty website is a beauty addicts paradise. I spend a very unhealthy amount of time drooling over the website. I particularly like the way they list the ingredients used in a product and the way they explain what makes a product work. I find this very helpful when deciding whether something will work for me, and of course is it really worth parting with my hard earned pennies. Cult Beauty are very selective about what products they stock, choosing products which have been proven to deliver results. Having said that they do have a really wide range of products. There really is something for everyone here.

I thought I would share the things on my current wish list. This is what I will be showing the hubby for inspiration for Christmas. The photos I have used are all taken from the Cult Beauty website.

Deep Relax Bath & Shower Oil
Aromatherapy Associates Deep Relax Bath and Shower Oil is the ultimate in bath time pampering. It contains a heavenly mix of sandalwood, wild chamomile, roman chamomile and ho wood. Perfect at bed time.

 Body Wash
Dr Haushka Rose Nurturing Body Wash. I love Dr Haushka products, they are absolutely fantastic. I really want to try this, and do hope Santa will bring me this.
Camellia Nut Facial Hydrating Cream
Aesop Camellia Nut Facial Hydrating Cream. This is another brand I am desperate to try. This sounds like it will be perfect for protecting my skin against Winter weather, and goodness knows it need all the help it can get when things turn really cold.
Hand Rescue
MV Organic Hand Rescue. I know I go on and on about hand cream, but my poor nurses hands get so chapped and sore. That search for a miracle cure is my top skin care concern. This contains some pretty impressive ingredients prized for their moisturising properties. I really, really want this.
Reve de Miel Lip Balm
Reve de Miel Lip Balm by Nuxe. I am down to the last scrapings of my current one. This is a cult product for a very good reason. It does wonders for dry, chapped lips. I need a replacement desperately.
Moroccan Rose Otto Ultra-Moisture Body Oil
Ren Moroccan Rose Otto Ultra-Moisture Body Oil. Ren products are simply divine, and I have wanted to try this for so long. Another product on my Winter care skin list, because of the deeply moisturising ingredients it contains. The fact that it smells absolutely gorgeous is of course another huge factor in lusting after it. This is currently out of stock on the website, but I am hoping it makes a speedy return.
Volume Travel Kit
Volume Travel Kit by Tela Hair Organics. I do love a brand that has try me collections. This little set contains a mini shampoo, conditioner, dri shampoo, volumising styling mist and a bonus lip balm. Designed for those of us who have fine and long hair and full of organic ingredients. This is another range I really want to explore.

So there you go. That is my current wishlist. What products are you lusting over?

LoveLula Beauty Box November 2013

                                                  LoveLula Beauty Box November 2013.

The postman brought my November LoveLula beauty box this morning, and I am really pleased with this month's contents. Here are my initial thoughts on the box.

A 50ml sample of Cowshed Cowherb Restoring Hand Cream. I have tried a couple of Cowshed products before and I really liked them. I like their quirky sense of humour and their products are really good quality. I get through so much hand cream, so will definitely use this. The hand cream contains lavender and fennel essential oils, interestingly the lavender doesn't dominate the fragrance of this. I have had a quick try and it absorbs quickly. I am going to enjoy using this sample.

An 18ml sample of Weleda Oat Replenishing Shampoo. I have had a sample of the Millet Nourishing Shampoo and I really liked it. This size sample lasted about a week, but I do wash my hair everyday. It will be interesting to see how this compares with the Millet shampoo.

A 15ml sample of Herbfarmacy's Mallow Beauty Balm. This is a brand that is new to me and I am looking forward to trying this. When I first saw the Mallow Beauty Balm I assumed it was a cleanser, but this is intended to be used more like a serum. This is designed to moisturise and soften fine lines and wrinkles. I am really intrigued by this as any other serum I have tried has had a much more liquid consistency.

A 50ml sample of Ren Neroli and Grapefruit Body Wash and Body Cream. I love Ren products, but have yet to try the Neroli and Grapefruit range. I am a big fan of citrus based fragrance, so these are perfect for me.

Overall I am thrilled with this months box. I think it has a good selection of products, and will use everything I received. All the samples are a decent size too.

Bare Skin Beauty Clarifying Beauty Balm

Bare Skin Beauty Clarifying Beauty Balm.

A few weeks ago Juliette from Bare Skin Beauty was kind enough to send me a selection of products from her skin foods range. After asking my skin type and skin concerns she very generously sent me a try me and love me skin food kit, which contains samples of her Clarifying beauty balm, Antioxidant firming toner, Blissful youth cream, Illuminating eye gel and a bamboo cleansing pad.

Skinfood is a range which uses raw bio-active, nutrient rich super food, which have all been ethically sourced. The range harnesses a range of natural ingredients which stimulate skin cells to regenerate more quickly, help to eliminate toxins, improve circulation and maintain the plumpness of collagen. It goes without saying that these products do not contain parabens, mineral oils, artificial colouring, or bulking agents.

It is very clear from the Bare Skin Beauty website just how passionate they are about skin care and helping you find the right product for your skin type. These products are clearly made with love and have been a real pleasure to use. I plan to review them individually, to do them their full justice.

The first product is the Clarifying Beauty Balm, which is a wonderfully rich cleansing balm. I have been applying a small amount to dry skin and then using the wet bamboo cleansing pad to clean away. I have been using this morning and night

The Clarifying Beauty Balm includes a rich combination of shea and cocoa butter as well as carefully selected essential oils.  From the photo you can see it has a slightly grainy appearance, but in texture the balm is incredibly smooth. It very quickly melts into the skin, it smells amazing and is easily removed with the bamboo pad.

This leaves my skin feeling very pampered. It is a very effective cleanser, but it does not leave the skin feeling tight or dry. My skin just feels cleansed and healthy, and it looks noticeably healthier too. I have genuinely loved using the clarifying beauty balm.

The website is http://www.bareskin-beauty.co.uk/ and really is worth looking at.

NYX Round Lipstick in Doll.

                                                          NYX Round Lipstick in Doll.

I have always been really impressed with all the NYX makeup I have tried, and am steadily building quite the collection. I think they are a brand who offer very good quality products at a very affordable prices. I particularly like their round lipsticks, so I thought I would show a really pretty shade that is perfect for Autumn.

Doll is a lovely plum toned colour, it isn't too dark or vampy on my pale skin. It is a nice everyday colour. Like all the round lipsticks, I find it to be very moisturising and feels really comfortable on my lips. The wear time is reasonable too. It generally lasts for 3-4 hours depending on what I have eaten or had to drink. Best of all is the price, it costs just £4 and is available here
